The cyanotype process was invented by Sir john Hershel in 1842, and was most widely used as the first method of reproduction, hence “blueprints”. The process is based on the light sensitivity of iron salts. I have used this process to create cyanotype photograms of baby and children’s clothes. To create these images, I place an object of clothing on hand-coated, light sensitive paper and expose it to UV light for a period of time. The print is then developed in water and left to oxidize to a cyan blue. Each print is considered an original. Editions vary and are limited to 10. |
