Jane Since the birth of my children, Jane and Calvin, a single lifetime has taken on new meaning. I feel more fragile, mortal and finite. These cyanotype images reflect my constant struggle to bring the past into the present as a reminder of where we came from, who we came from, and where we are going. Childhood represents the most precious, vulnerable, and innocent time of our lives. As childhood passes, it leaves behind a wardrobe of “soft shells”, the only physical evidence of our small self. Memorialized, documented, and in some cases, animated, these soft shells are captured with the youthful energy and innocence of the antiquated cyanotype process, itself at the birth of photographic history. My hope for this work is that it inspires you to re-visit your childhood, your roots, recognizing your childhood experiences shape who you are and influence how you raise your children, and that this progression started long, long, ago. |
